Pen Cottage, Little Thornage. Sleeps 2/4

Located in what must be one of the prettiest, most unspoilt hamlets in North Norfolk.  The Kings Head pub and the Letheringsett Watermill ( working) are within walking distance and the cottage is a stone’s throw from the Letheringsett Ford and stunning walks over the old railway line to Holt.

Pen Cottage is a charming cottage and probably one of the oldest in the village. You enter into the sitting room still boasting the original pamment flooring ( softened with rugs) and the huge fireplace with ( modern ! ) Woodburner. A comfortable sofa and armchairs are grouped around the fireplace with the TV installed in the corner. From here you can either access the staircase hidden behind a door or through to the kitchen and sunroom.

The kitchen / diner is small but has been well thought out and there is a dining table here too. Wooden country style kitchen cupboards and butlers sink are in keeping with the cottage and the owner has given a great deal of thought in equipping the kitchen.

From here you enter the sun room ( the washing machine is installed here) which in turn leads to the garden. This is a great room; cosy with a comfortable sofa in and overlooks a charming garden. The garden has a most delightful aspect and backs onto the Glaven Valley water meadows grazed by cattle in the summer. There is no doubt you will see the local barn owls hunting and kingfishers have been spotted at the Ford. It really is an idyllic rural spot.

Upstairs are the two bedrooms. Given the age of this cottage and the owners wish to preserve its originality the stairs are of the Norfolk Winder type. Very steep so care must be taken and there are handrails to help you. The stairs open into the double room which is spacious although with some restricted height in places.

From the double room is the cosy twin room (please note the twin beds are 2ft 6in wide and there is restricted height in parts) with a window overlooking the water meadows and a door to the bathroom. The bathroom is the Jack and Jill type meaning you can access it from both the double room and the twin room without disturbing the other guests. There is a shower over the bath and again some restricted height.

Outside, the cottage is set back from the no-thru road ( just ends up at the ford with a footbridge over the River Glaven) with parking on the gravelled front garden.
